I only recommend products/services that bring value to my life.
When I was interviewing for my current job, one of the interviewers asked me: "How much of a beauty guru are you?" To which my response was a slight smile followed by, "I'm not, at all." Truthfully, the job didn't rely much on me being a beauty guru, but that question stayed with me through the last year and a half I've worked there. It made me look at something in me that I never saw before - it made me ask myself what is my interest in the beauty space?
This should come as no surprise to you, but I like to keep my beauty & makeup routine minimal. I love my time in the morning and I'd much rather eat breakfast or read a fun article before work than spend 30 minutes in front of the mirror getting ready (PS: no shame or judgement if this is you - I support it! It's just not my personal style). I'm also the type of girl that once I find my "tried and true" products, I'm sticking with them for the long haul. Only the best products make it past my picky nature and minimal routine!
I have tested and tried many products and ultimately selected the best of the best for my skin. I love them so much that I use them every day and don't have any desire to try anything else. So here it is: a list of all the beauty products that I'm beyond obsessed with in every way that can be used for a simple look or can be easily added to your glam routine!
Prep & Prime Must Haves:
SheaMoisture African Black Soap Wipes - I use these every morning! They keep me feeling fresh without stripping my face of too much natural oil.
CeraVe Renewing Cleanser - My absolute favorite cleanser that I feel is responsible for keeping occasional acne in check. I use this every night before bed.
Exuviance Daily Resurfacing Peel - The ultimate anti-aging secret weapon. I use this on my entire face & it helps minimize fine lines and other early signs of aging. I also amp up my use if I start breaking out (the citric acid will bring acne to the top of your skin faster, helping you get a clearer complexion quicker).
Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Moisturizer - The ONLY moisturizer I've ever enjoyed using. Super hydrating but doesn't over-quench my oily skin.
Smashbox Photo Finish Super Light Primer - The most amazing primer out there & the only one that doesn't break me out. Great for normal-oily skin (the other Smashbox primers are a bit too heavy for me).
Tula Blurring & Moisturizing Primer - If you missed my full Tula review, check it out here. This product did not work for my skin, but I' m including it because I do see how this could be amazing for those of you with dry skin. If you're normal/oily like me, I'd steer clear until they (hopefully) make an oil control version.
Make Up Must Haves:
SmashBox Studio Skin Foundation - Let me just stay this: there is nothing better out there. This foundation is everything you could want. A light-medium buildable coverage, matte finish, long-wear, and never transfers! I keep colors 1.2 and 2.2 on hand and mix them to get my desired shade (depending on my level of self-tanner).
Nars Powder Blush - I wear the color Luster, which is a golden apricot and provides the slightest pinky hue. It does have a slight shimmer finish, but it perfectly lays over the matte foundation.
Nars Bronzer Powder - I wear the shade Laguna. Don't be fooled by the dark color image online, this bronzer is totally buildable and leaves a slight golden shimmer.
Tula Rose Glow Eye Balm - This is the best Tula product out there! It gives you a nice shimmery sheen to your under eyes (no need for contouring liquid makeup) and I like to bring it up my cheekbones like highlight. Total staple.
Charlotte Tilbury Highlight Wand - I'll add this highlighter to my Tula highlight if I want a little extra glow. I use the color Spotlight, which is a radiant finish rather than a shimmer. It looks stunning!
NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray - Setting spray may not seem minimal, but this is a must. Because my skin gets oily throughout the day, I use a lot of products to help keep it dry. Using this setting spray as my last step, it helps keep my makeup looking dewy and fresh (never flaky) even while the rest of the products help control shine.
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara - You've probably used this a 10 year old that one time you got into your mom's makeup bag, but this has been the only mascara I've found that doesn't break my brittle lashes. After years of lash extensions, my lashes will break and fall out from just the slightest bit of pressure (too much curling, heavy mascara, etc.) but they seem to thrive with this one! It also doesn't flake at all, which is a MUST for my sensitive eyes.
Lip Must Haves
Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips - I use a super dose of regular Vaseline on my lips every night, but love this rose-tinted version for during the day. It's the perfect hint of color for a low-maintenance look.
Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon - I'm new to the lipstick world and have yet to buy a designer lipstick because this Ink Crayon has worked perfectly for me. The color range is wide, it stays on as well as you'd imagine, and it's under $10! I love the nude/pink color Lead the Way.
Duke Cannon Cannon Balm - I use chapstick religiously throughout the day and this one makes me want to use it even more. It's a mint scent and has SPF 15 (enough to protect you from the sun, but not too much that it's waxy).
